Holy Cross Catholic School and Early Education Center currently has over 420 children enrolled in preschool through eighth grade.
With Christ as our foundation, we strive to develop the gifts of each child, knowing that they will one day use those gifts to serve God and others.
To accomplish this goal, we focus on building faith and inspiring minds.
In addition to our religious education curriculum, we put our faith in action through prayer and worship, service projects, and social justice initiatives.
We also strive for academic excellence and received the 2007 Building Standard of Excellence in reading, math and writing from the State of Kansas, and the 2008 Building Standard of Excellence in reading, math and science.
The elementary school employs a staff of 26 teachers, including two full-time learning specialists. Fifty percent of our teachers have 15 or more years of teaching experience and 40% hold a master’s degree. We also have a licensed counselor and a school nurse.
The director of our Early Education Center has a B.S. in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood development. Fifty percent of the EEC staff have 10 or more years of teaching experience and 75% of the staff hold a bachelor's degree.
Holy Cross Catholic School is part of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. Our teachers use the Archdiocesan Curriculum Standards to guide their instruction at all grade levels and in all subjects. These standards are fully aligned with the standards set forth by the Kansas State Department of Education. We are also accredited by the State of Kansas, as well as the North Central Association.
We partner with the Shawnee Mission School District for special needs services (both remedial and gifted) and have services for English Language Learners. Enrichment activities include a Kindergarten bell choir, Battle of the Books, Mathletics, Science Olympiad, Quiz Bowl, 5-8 grade band, junior high bell and vocal choirs, and grades 3-8 parish CYO sports. Ancillary classes include music, PE, art, technology, library and Spanish.
